Lackawanna College Veterans in Action Group

On November 11th at 12:30PM the Lackawanna College Veterans in Action group (LCVIA) will be holding a dedication ceremony for the Peace Garden in Nay Aug Park, Scranton PA.

The garden project was a creation of the LCVIA which works to update and beautify existing service memorial  monuments. Prior to this project, the Vietnam Veteran’s memorial was unnoticeable due to an accumulation of weeds and lack of care.

The group started this project a year and a half ago, first by moving the monument, then by planting an eight foot diameter garden in the shape of a peace symbol. While working on this, the discovery was made of a plaque attached to the base of the flag pole dedicated to the Civil War Veterans who fought for the Union. The plaque was literally buried underground and will be the group’s next phase of this project along with creating a memorial to the Korean Veterans.

The garden is located between the Everhart Museum and the adjoining parking lot. To the right of the Reflection Pool if looking straight on.
