Gerry Gurnari and Karla Porter, from our leadership team of veterans who serve veterans, attended the second annual Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center Summit on Veteran Homelessness, along with other area community based veteran centric agencies.
During the morning, Bill Mericle provided an update on the Homelessness Plan, David Warke discussed the Healthcare for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) and Grant/Per Diem Transitional Housing Programs (GPD) and Kim Sapolis Lacey talked about Veteran’s Justice Outreach (VJO).
As the morning progressed, Maureen Rebar gave an overview of the Department of Housing and Urban Development/Department of Veterans Affairs Supported Housing Progran (HUD/VASH) and Chris Schmidt and Tom Di Matteo presented on the Compensated Work Therapy Program (CWT) / Supported Employment Program (SE).
The morning wrapped up with an overview of Lackawanna County Veteran’s Court and importance of treating the person versus locking up a problem, by The Honorable Judge Michael J. Barrasse.
We stay informed so that we can advocate for and assist veterans and family members who haven’t been able to find the solutions they seek. Look forward to some exciting news in the weeks to come in the areas of employment and housing from NEPA VMA.
